Ko te pū
Ko te weu
Ko te aka
Ko te more
Ko te pihi kei te tihi kei runga rawa e,
Ko te pua ka hua ki te ao mārama e!
Our Māra Puoro is now open! Finally after two years since I began making the taonga, this week the sound garden opened to our students for the first time.
Some very excited students have been in this week to learn the rules and test it out, and it's been wonderful to see their happiness and enjoyment of the space.
Here are some of our Year 8s using the taonga to do some improvising over a rōria (drone)
Whaea Terehia having a fun exchange with one of our kōtiro on Te Pūmanawataki
Making music with our waewae - ding boxes getting a workout
One of the most important reasons I made the sound garden was to enable our tamariki to access and explore music in their own space and time, to find their own voices, styles and expression within this. Here you can see one of our Year 5 boys doing just that, and totally rocking the ditty he's just made up! Love it.
